Michael Garrett

List of Compositions

Epithalamion 1 (D) £6.00

We are pleased to welcome this well-established Edinburgh composer to our lists.  He says of this piece, ‘Epithalamion is my first composition for organ and it was commissioned and premièred in St. Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh, by the dedicatee, Elizabeth Day, in November 2008.  It is loosely inspired by James Elroy Flecker’s poem of the same title, although it is also a celebration of the unity of love and humanity in a general sense.’

The music is in an exotic post-Messiaenic style that is curiously alluring and extremely effective.  This piece was also presented at the Annual Festival of New Organ Music held in London in August 2009.

While you can view and play back the score on this website, we strongly recommend that you listen to the live performance at:    www.michaelgarrett.info/listen/index.htm .
